~ Pondering the Possibilities: Growing Happiness
A common complaint seems to be that happiness is too fleeting to savor or too elusive to capture. But, with a little cultivation, couldn’t happiness becomes a home-grown crop that is easily shared?
Whenever possible – SMILE!

Whenever given “the bird” – IMAGINE!

Whenever you have the chance – DANCE!

Once you see it…
“... once you see it, you can’t unsee it. And once you've seen it, keeping quiet, saying nothing, becomes as political an act as speaking out. There’s no innocence. Either way, you’re accountable.”
~ ~ Arundhati Roy

Success is not final…
"Success is not final,
failure is not fatal:
it is the courage to continue
that counts.”
~ ~ Winston Churchill
An unquenchable spirit of adventure…
“There is no experience from which you can’t learn something. When you stop learning you stop living in any vital and meaningful sense. And the purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience. …You can do that only if you have curiosity, an unquenchable spirit of adventure…”
~ ~ Eleanor Roosevelt, You Learn By Living

The place of persistence
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not;
nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.
Genius will not;
unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not;
the world is full of educated failures.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
~ ~ Calvin Coolidge

If the seeds of growth are made sterile…
"If the seeds of growth are made sterile, if men become passive followers instead of developing qualities of leadership - and courage - we may find someday that our way of life has been superseded."
~~ Eleanor Roosevelt

Darkness cannot drive out darkness…
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness;
only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate;
only love can do that.
Hate multiplies hate,
violence multiplies violence,
and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction...
The chain reaction of evil -
hate begetting hate,
wars producing more wars -
must be broken,
or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation."
~ ~ Martin Luther King Jr.

Life ought to be…
The death-knell of the republic…

Of the import of the term republic…
"...Of the import of the term republic,... we may say with truth and meaning, that governments are more or less republican as they have more or less of the element of popular election and control in their composition; and believing, as I do, that the mass of the citizens is the safest depository of their own rights, and especially, that the evils flowing from the duperies of the people, are less injurious than those from the egoism of their agents, I am a friend to that composition of government which has in it the most of this ingredient... "

The money powers prey upon the nation…
"The money powers prey upon the nation in times of peace and conspire against it in times of adversity. The banking powers are more despotic than a monarchy, more insolent than autocracy, more selfish than bureaucracy. They denounce as public enemies all who question their methods or throw light upon their crimes. I have two great enemies, the Southern Army in front of me and the bankers in the rear. Of the two, the one at my rear is my greatest foe."
~ ~ Abraham Lincoln

I know of no safe depository…
I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them but to inform their discretion.
